Medication: What is the best method of contraception if you have ME?
What is the best method of contraception if you have ME?
My partner and I have a dilemma regarding our choice of contraception. I have mild to moderate ME/CFS. My husband is fit and well. We want to use a safe and reliable method but we aren't having much luck!
I had to give up using ‘the pill' because of side-effects, including migraine-type headaches. So we are reluctantly using barrier protection. But this isn't ideal when you are not wanting to have another baby for both health and practical reasons.
I've thought about using a coil but am worried about whether having a ‘foreign body' inside could cause more problems with my immune system. I'm also worried about the risk of infection, having had a pelvic infection in the past.
There doesn't seem to be a simple solution and my GP isn’t very helpful when it comes to discussing the remaining options.

Research: Post-Mortem
What is happening to post-mortem tissue research into ME/CFS at the moment? Is the ME Association still funding and carrying out any postmortem research? And have any significant abnormalities been found in the post-mortems that have been carried out so far?
Medical Disclosure
I have quite severe ME/CFS and am currently unable to work. However, my wife has a well-paid job and we are probably going to have to move house to another part of the country later in the year. As this may involve taking out some new insurance cover can I check what the position is regarding the disclosure of my medical information to an insurance company? Whilst I can understand why an insurance company would find it helpful to know about someone’s state of health, I am concerned about the accuracy of the information that my GP may be asked to provide – as he takes a rather sceptical view of ME/CFS and I very rarely see him.
The 2021 NICE Guideline ME/CFS: Primary Care
I asked my GP if she was aware of the new NICE guideline on ME/CFS and whether she had read it. The answer was a very firm no and she explained that all doctors are suffering from information overload. So they can’t keep up-to-date with all the new NICE guidelines that appear.
Is there any way in which we could actually get our doctors to read this important new information?
