How many people have ME/CFS?

ME Essential Winter 2024

It seems that almost everyone involved with ME states that that there are around 250,000 people in the UK who have ME/CFS. This figure has been used for many years and it must now be out of date given the increase in population and all the new cases linked to Covid 19.

Isn’t it time to update this figure?

Post-Viral Fatigue Syndrome, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis or Encephalopathy, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and Long Covid

ME Essential Winter 2022

Please can you define what PVFS, ME/CFS, and Long Covid mean. I am having difficulty determining if they are the same disease or different. Thank you!

Prevalance: Population Estimates

ME Essential Spring 2021

The MEA always uses a figure of around 250,000 when you refer to the number of people in the UK who have ME/CFS. But where does that figure come from? And how accurate is it?

Disability Classification

ME Essential Autumn 2020

How does the government define a disability? Does the government classify ME/CFS as a disability? I ask because I assume that this could have important implications for people who are having problems with benefits, education or work.

Symptom: Low Temperature

ME Essential Summer 2020

Do people with ME have a low body temperature? My body temperature always seems to be slightly below normal when I check it with a thermometer and I’ve seen this being discussed on internet discussion forums. I’m also starting to feel the cold more than I used to do.
