Bookworms – do you fancy a free Alan Bennett on World Book Night?

February 9, 2011

People living in Hampshire who would like to receive a free copy of Alan Bennett's poignant memoir of his early life, A Life Like Other People's, then please contact with MEA member Amanda Laws.

Amanda will have 48 copies of the book to give away on ‘World Book Night” which is Saturday, March 5 – when publishing groups round the UK will be clubbing up to give away 40,000 copies of each of 25 separate titles, adding up to a massive giveway of one million books.

“I've been successful in applying to be a ‘Giver' on World Book Night – now I have to work out the logistics of how to do it”, said Amanda. If you live in Hampshire and would like to apply for your free copy, please drop Amanda a line at amanda.laws@virgin.net

  1. This just in from Amanda (4 March 2011):

…sadly I have had a terrible response to my request to finding people who wanted a free book. I have even been on Radio Solent being interviewed and still I only have 11 takers. There are two care workers who have said they would like some for their clients, but have not said how many they want or when they will collect.

I am delivering the 11 tomorrow and will hopefully know how many, if any, the care workers want in a few days. I will email you next week and give you a concluding comment if you like.

    Amanda
