A former costume design student with a nice line in 70s and 80s ‘New Wave’ wear and the make-up to go with it has chosen to muddy things up when she raises money for the ME Association later this month.
Minnie Isles, who achieved first class honours on her costume design course at the University of the Arts in Wimbledon, will take part in a 5k ‘Tough Mudder’ at Henley-on-Thames over the weekend of May 21-22.
The event includes scrambling over obstacles and wading waist-high through mud pools.
“Getting muddy doesn’t worry me in the least”, said 23-year-old Minnie, who will be celebrating what looks like a recovery from M.E, with which she was diagnosed three years ago after feeling below par for many months.
“I just feel so grateful to be getting my energy back.”
Joining her in the event will be boyfriend Tom and a group of their friends.
Minnie, from Yeovil in Somerset, keeps her costume design memories alive on her Instagram account, ‘The Imaginarium of Almeria’. It harks back 40 years to the glamorous age of ‘New Wave’ music featuring bands like Adam Ant and ‘Bow Wow Wow’.
She occasionally gets requests for help with styling on photo shoots, which she thoroughly enjoys. And, while recovering from being ill, she helps to look after some very lively young nephews and cousins.
“Completing a 5k will still be a massive feat for me but I’ll take my time and have the support of a bunch of friends round me. I feel lucky about raising awareness and getting back to doing something I once enjoyed.”
