Gift Aid Awareness Day 2020 #TickTheBox
Today – Thursday, October 8 – is Gift Aid Awareness Day.
The ME Association, together with most of this country’s charities, need people more than ever to remember to tick the Gift Aid Box when they make a donation.
A think tank called the Charity Finance Group tell us that overall donations to charities have fallen by over £10billion this year because of the pandemic.
They say that Gift Aid is worth £1.3billion to the UK’s charities – but surprisingly £560million of that goes unclaimed every year.
So, if you are a UK taxpayer, please remember to tick the Gift Aid box when making a donation – you will need to complete a declaration that includes your full HOME address and postcode.
“We’re extremely grateful to everybody who can afford to make a donation to support the ME Association's vital work.
“But, if you’re fortunate enough this year to be in work and paying UK taxes, ticking the Gift Aid box is a painless way for us to be able to top up your donation without it costing you a penny extra.
Tony Britton, PR and Fundraising Manager, ME Association
“When it has been gift-aided, your £10 or £100 donation is worth £12.50 or £125 to the ME Association!”
Donors can gift aid their donations via the ME Association:
- JustGiving (https://www.justgiving.com/meassociation) page,
- Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/meassociation/ ) page, and,
- You can also donate by phone to Head Office (01280 818 963) – just ask for Gift Aid to be added to your donation.
The Charity Finance Group is spearheading a national campaign asking the Government to temporarily increase the level of Gift Aid.
The ME Association will be online today reminding people on our social media about Gift Aid and using the hashtag #TickTheBox.
“Please remember that Gift Aid is for the whole year round and not just for October 8. Use it as often as you can and help the charities carry on with their great work!”
