An alternative health practitioner has recommended that I take a 5-HTP supplement for my muscle pain and headaches, but I’m very wary of upsetting my heart and nervous system – especially my heart rhythms which are all over the place at the moment. Is there any evidence that this supplement, which I had never even heard of, is both safe and effective for use in ME?

Is there any connection between recurrent mouth ulcers and ME? I have always had them since childhood and have been told that they can be stress-related, and that there is no underlying infection present.
Last year I had quite a few nasty mouth ulcers and was prescribed antibiotics because I had a secondary infection in the ulcers. Since then the ulcers have become more regular and persistent.
Knowing that lack of exercise and weight gain are two things that increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, is this type of diabetes more common in people with ME? I ask because I noticed I was getting thirsty, drinking more water than usual, and was also passing urine more frequently. I went to see my GP for some blood and urine tests and she confirmed that I had developed type 2 (non insulin requiring) diabetes. The good news is that a change in diet and weight loss are definitely bringing things under control and it doesn’t look as though I am going to need treating with drugs.
I’ve had mild intermittent eczema all my life and this has been worse since developing ME/CFS. More recently I’ve noticed a more widespread skin irritation that isn’t associated with patches of eczema. Should I be concerned?
