Fundraising Feature: NCS Stamford are doing an incredible amount for M.E. | 05 August 2019

August 5, 2019

Helen Hyland, Fundraising Manager, ME Association.

Please join with me in wishing good luck to an inspiring group of fundraisers over these next few days.

The 20 or so members of NCS (National Citizen Service) Stamford have set themselves a hugely ambitious target of organising: not just one event but FIVE events for M.E. in the space of three short days starting today.

They will be doing:

Yes, you read that right – all in the space of just THREE DAYS!

I have never come across fundraisers wanting to do so much at one time for M.E. and the ME Association.

I am totally in awe of their determination and ambition. All because one of their group has M.E. You can read her poignant story on their JustGiving page but here’s an extract:

“At the end of year 9 I was diagnosed with M.E., and because of the way it affected me I was left unable to continue with my active hobbies (such as dancing and walking) due to severe joint and muscle pain. I was too ill (easily fatigued) to continue in mainstream school – this meant I missed the entirety of year 10.”

“In year 11, a viable education plan was set up and the amount of GCSE's I ended up taking was reduced. M.E. has (and will most likely continue to have) a negative impact on my education and ability to get a job.”

NCS is a life-changing programme open to all teenagers aged 15-17 to discover who they are and what they can do. It is their chance to explore, be inspired and find their passion.

The culmination of their efforts is a ‘social action project’ and these awesome teenagers are throwing everything they’ve got into doing all they can for M.E.

Do please lend these amazing young people your support. Again, their JustGiving page details are here

Thank you and the best of luck to the team!
