We don't need a TV show to highlight The ME Association's star bakers – although of course we wouldn't turn one down if an offer was made! But this couple are more than doing the job for us on the first Saturday morning of every month at Loughborough Baptist Church.
Church members Gillian Morris and her husband Stephen have been performing the honours in the church hall there since July 2021. It was then that the couple started offering homemade cakes and soup to anyone who popped into the church, perhaps as a break from shopping in the town's Saturday market.
They're back with their bakes and refreshments in the town centre church this Saturday – 7th January – between 10.30am and 12.30pm. Our fundraiser Tony Britton hopes to be there, and so do MEA members Pat Brown and her husband Graham.
Donate what you want to you when you order your refreshments at the kitchen counter in the hall.
“Since we started in July 2021, the total we've raised for your Ramsay Research Fund is £1,818.43. We raised £1,255.10 in our first 12 months and, over the last six months, have raised £563.33”, said Gillian this week.
“The church is open every day of the week. Our Yarn Angels groupknit and crochet free items for charity so, if anybody would like rug, hats, scarves, neckwarmers to keep warm let us know.”
The couple support their son-in-law who has M.E.
The church has a comfortable café, a relaxed foyer area with settees and in good weather uses the well-kept forecourt, where there are benches, picnic tables and parasols. Outside is the bus dropping-off point for visitors to Loughborough’s lively Saturday market.
