It has been announced that Cora Health has been awarded the new Kent and Medway ME/CFS and Long Covid service contract, worth almost £9 million over an initial three-year period, with the option to extend for a further two years. The new service is expected to begin in September 2026.
According to the contract specification, some key features of the service will include:
- Early diagnosis and personalised care planning
- A multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach involving medical professionals, nurses, allied health professionals (AHPs) and care coordinators
- Both virtual and in-person support options
- Dedicated pathways for severely affected patients, including home-based care
- Transition support for young people moving from paediatric to adult services
We know many people in the ME/CFS and wider post-viral community will have questions about what this change means in practice, particularly around continuity of care and support during the transition period.
The Healthcare 4 ME team have already been in contact with both the outgoing and incoming providers to seek reassurance on behalf of the community. We have been assured that protecting the most vulnerable patients will be a priority throughout the transition process and that detailed mobilisation planning is already underway to help ensure services continue smoothly.
Importantly, our offer to support the development of future service pathways and specifications has been welcomed. We will continue to advocate for meaningful patient involvement and bring lived experience into conversations shaping the future of ME/CFS and post-viral care across Kent and Medway.
