ME Awareness: New CPD Training Course for Medical Professionals about ME/CFS | 12 May 2020

May 12, 2020

Help us promote this new course to healthcare professionals.

Dr Charles Shepherd, Hon. Medical Adviser, ME Association.

Dr Nina Muirhead.

The CMRC Medical Education Group which is led by Dr Nina Muirhead (an NHS surgeon with M.E.) has launched in partnership with StudyPRN an online course for medical professionals about ME/CFS.

This has been a team effort with members of the group comprising medical professionals with an interest in the condition, charity representatives including the ME Association, Physios 4 ME, and the CMRC Patient Advisory Group.

The online course is in the form of a number of case studies. It can be taken by anyone with an interest in ME/CFS, will count towards continuing professional development (CPD) and result in a certificate.

GPs and other healthcare professionals will read case studies that aim to typify the kind of patients who may or may not display symptoms of ME/CFS, and will then be asked to decide what those symptoms might be indicating, what diagnosis is appropriate and what management advice and/or medications to consider.

If they select wrong answers, then the module will explain why those answers are wrong and suggest what things they might have missed as well as indicating the correct answer.

The hope is that participants come away from the course with more knowledge about ME/CFS than they had before, and that we can help increase medical education and awareness.

 Feedback Questionnaire

Please complete the questionnaire about the StudyPRN ME/CFS training module. It will help us to understand what you feel about the course and determine any areas of improvement.

We are especially interested in hearing from GPs. You will find the questionnaire on the landing page of the module (or click the link above).

Access the StudyPRN ME/CFS training course here.

This has been quite a demanding project, and everyone involved has pitched in their time voluntarily. We are delighted with the final product and feel very proud to finally have a good CPD module that can be shared with medical professionals in the hope that their awareness and knowledge of ME/CFS can be improved.

Promoting the course

We want to ensure that as many GPs and healthcare professionals are made aware of this course as possible. You can help by sharing the information with them at your next appointment.

We will be sending a letter to all the GP surgeries and ME/CFS hospital services about which we are aware promoting this new online module in the hope that staff will take some time to complete the course and receive their certificate.

If you would like us to inform your GP and/or healthcare professional about the new online course, please let us know.

We will include their details on our mailing list to receive regular copies of ME Essential magazine and updates about important developments. The next mailing will go out in July.

Send the name and address to: caroline.cavey@meassociation.org.uk Caroline is Editor of ME Essential magazine. All information will remain confidential.
