MEA Fundraising: ME Awareness Week 2020 – Go Blue 4 ME! | 17 December 2019

December 17, 2019

Tony Britton, Fundraising Manager, ME Association.

Go Blue 4 ME, one of the ME Association's most successful regular fundraising campaigns, will run again next year.

While we’re keeping some other surprises up our sleeves, the main Go Blue 4 ME fundraiser will be held during ME Awareness Week in May. The dates for that are Monday, May 11 – Sunday, May 17.

So please block out those dates in your diaries and get ready to slap on the war paint!

Wear blue clothing – we’ve got some cracking T-shirts which will transform the way you look.  You could complement the shirt with blue leggings, skirts, wigs and make-up.  Cover your front door and the garden gate with blue tinsel held back from Christmas. Put a blue bulb in your porch lamp.

Anna Redshaw

Hold your own blue tea parties – the tablecloths, cakes, crockery and posters could all be colour-coordinated if you plan far enough ahead.

Anna Redshaw, who set the standard several years ago, is hoping to hold her usual iconic Blue Sunday Tea Party at Tinwell, near Stamford.

Check out what’s available to decorate your event in your local party shops. Remember, the colour’s BLUE!

Get married in blue that week!  You’d really make the news if you could tip off the papers and let them know why you’re doing it.

Ask the ME Association for stocks of posters and our ‘ME Hurts!’ leaflet. ME Awareness Week is a terrific time to fundraise and to inform others about M.E.

To spread the message, invite your local paper to take the photographs and make sure ahead of the event that they're well briefed by email.

If you don't have the energy to invite people round to yours, hold a virtual tea party online for those who will not be well enough to travel to you on the day. Take photos of everything – we’d love to use them!

Go blue in your social media profile; we’ll have an over-ready icon available for you to upload. Ask your council to change the floodlight filters to blue on their landmark public buildings and be sure to pump out photos of those on your own social media.

Tony Britton.

Please support our vital work

We are a national charity working hard to make the UK a better place for people whose lives have been devastated by an often-misunderstood neurological disease.

If you would like to support our efforts and ensure we are able to inform, support, advocate and invest in biomedical research, then please donate today.

Just click the image opposite or visit our JustGiving page for one-off donations or to establish a regular payment. You can even establish your own fundraising event.

Or why not join the ME Association as a member and be part of our growing community? For a monthly (or annual) subscription you will also receive ME Essential – quite simply the best M.E. magazine!
