Staff are very kind and informed regarding the NICE guidelines. I feel supported in as much as they are able to. They are clearly oversubscribed and there is no access to a consultant post diagnosis. No help for comorbid conditions or referral for other treatments. Though they are caring and I have found the relationship valuable if not hugely helpful overall.
There was no opportunity to speak to a doctor, just a nurse who recommended mindful colouring followed by a zoom meeting, then CBT that was cut short. So no help at all.
- The South West London and Surrey ME/CFS Specialist Service provides diagnosis, management and support for adults with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS).
- The service opened in 2005 as part of the Department of Health's chronic fatigue clinical network collaborative to introduce services for individuals with ME/CFS.
- The Service states it bases its advice on management on the NICE guidelines for ME/CFS (NG206, 2021) HOWEVER, they do also appear to promote GET (found in this leaflet advertised on their website – chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://www.epsom-sthelier.nhs.uk/download/gettingstartedforcfs1pdf.pdf?ver=55953&doc=docm93jijm4n23529.pdf)
- The multidisciplinary team includes a clinical lead, Dr Stanimira Lazarova, clinical nurse specialists, clinical psychologists, an occupational therapist and a physiotherapist. The Service is based at the Malvern Centre on the old Sutton Hospital site.
