NHS Ayrshire & Arran are set to receive funding for a combined Long Covid and ME/CFS service, which will transition from the existing post-Covid service based at Irvine Royal and sit within the broader rehabilitation services.
They are seeking feedback via a public survey.
We encourage people, particularly those living in and around the NHS Ayrshire & Arran area, to complete the survey and clearly express what safe, specialist ME/CFS care should look like.
Constructive, informed feedback is essential if services are to reflect current NICE guidance and lived experience.
The form is short and fairly simple to complete.

- 1️⃣ The MEA has not been involved in the development of this survey or the proposed service model.
- 2️⃣ Specialist ME/CFS referral services should be physician-led, in line with best practice for a complex multisystem condition. It is not currently clear that this is the case here.
- 3️⃣ ME/CFS referral services should not be described as “rehabilitation services.”
The term “rehabilitation” implies restoration to normal health through treatment. There is currently no curative treatment for ME/CFS, and services should focus on specialist medical management, symptom stabilisation, and harm avoidance.
