Running for their daughter, Warren and Sam’s Fundraising Journey

Warren never thought he'd be a runner. Twenty seconds used to be his limit. But today, he's completed multiple 10k runs, 2 half marathons and is training for the London Landmarks Half Marathon and the London Marathon 2026. What transformed Warren into a dedicated and regular runner was the desire to make a difference for ME/CFS and PoTS research.

Warren's commitment to ME/CFS and PoTS fundraising comes from a very personal experience. His daughter has been severely affected by both conditions and is currently bed-bound and the impact on their family has been significant.

Like many families affected by ME/CFS and PoTS, Warren and Sam have tried to navigate the complexities of healthcare and education systems. Access to specialist care can be challenging, with limited services and the need to travel long distances for appointments. They have learned that awareness and understanding of these conditions varies widely among healthcare professionals and educators and these experiences have only made them more determined to raise funds for research and support services.

It all began five years ago when Warren took up cycling and began raising money for various charities. After just six weeks of training, he completed his first running event: the Cambridge Half Marathon, finishing in around 2 hours 20 minutes. He's now completed it twice and various 10k events and challenging duathlons.

Warren loves to listen to the music his daughter chooses for him when he runs – keeping her close, and giving him the determination to keep going through the ups and downs of every run. His wife Sam has also discovered running, despite never being a sports person before. She's now doing Park Runs and enjoying it but the London Landmarks Half Marathon 2026 will mark a significant milestone for Sam as it will be her very first half marathon, a challenge unlike anything she's ever attempted before. Warren plans to run alongside Sam every step of the way, encouraging her through this challenge. Together, they will cover the 13.1 miles for their daughter, remaining united in their determination to raise awareness and funds for ME/CFS and PoTS research.

Warren always wears either an ME Association or POTS UK vest when he runs, turning every parkrun, marathon, training session into an opportunity to raise awareness and funds and he knows his daughter understands he's fighting for her. Now, with Sam taking on her biggest challenge yet, their daughter always knows that both her parents are running for her every step of the way.
