Do you have non insulin requiring diabetes in addition to ME/CFS? If so, and you have been treated with the drug metformin, which is used to lower blood sugar levels, please complete this website survey.
Background information:
A new research paper has queried whether metformin could also be used to treat ME/CFS.
This is because in addition to lowering blood sugar levels, metformin has other effects that could be relevant to the underlying disease process in ME/CFS.
These actions include the way in which metformin can also have effects on the body's immune system and energy production mechanisms.
There is also some existing research evidence to indicate that metformin, if given during an acute infection with Covid, can reduce the risk of developing Long Covid.
So the purpose of this survey is collect patient evidence from people with ME/CFS who already have some experience of taking metformin.
I should also point out that existing patient evidence from discussions about this drug on MEA Facebook indicate that most people do not find that their ME/CFS symptoms have improved when taking metformin.
***THE SURVEY IS NOW CLOSED- 19.11.25***
