HASC Team Presentation to CHC Community Nurses – Devon and Torbay NHS Trust

This week, members of the HASC team were pleased to deliver an informative presentation to 15 Continuing Healthcare (CHC) community nurses from Devon and Torbay NHS Trust.

The session raised awareness of how the charity can support healthcare professionals, people with ME/CFS, and their carers and highlighted the breadth of resources available through the charity as well as information about ME Connect and our role in signposting to appropriate support.

As part of the session, we provided an overview of the NICE guidelines on ME/CFS, which included common symptoms, the illness severity scale and principles of management such as pacing and energy management. We also addressed the current understanding of the pathophysiology of ME and highlighted local support groups available in the Devon and Torbay area.

The session was very well received, with attendees expressing sincere appreciation for the time and expertise shared. Many remarked on how much they had learnt, and the presentation stimulated thoughtful discussion around the evolving understanding of ME/CFS.

Building on the success of this session, we plan to reach out to CHC community nurses in other regions, starting with colleagues in the BOB Integrated Care Board (ICB) area.
