H4ME team addresses ongoing reports of graded exercise therapy being recommended in ME/CFS care:

The Healthcare team (H4ME) has recently written to two healthcare professionals following reports that graded exercise therapy (GET) has been recommended for the management of individuals with ME/CFS: a GP in Berkshire and a Consultant Rheumatologist in private practice. The purpose of this correspondence was to highlight current best practice, raise awareness of the risk of harm associated with graded or incremental exercise approaches in the presence of post-exertional malaise (PEM) and to support alignment with NICE guidelines and the current evidence base. Educational materials were provided alongside peer-reviewed evidence.

H4ME supports people living with ME/CFS by responding to concerns about clinical care and promoting safer, evidence-informed management approaches.

If you have experienced clinical management that does not align with the 2021 NICE guidance, please contact us at health@meassociation.org.uk
