On 27th February, the Health and Social Care (HASC) team held an important meeting with the working group, representing residents from Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, and West Berkshire Integrated Care Board (BOB ICB). The primary focus of this discussion was to gather input on creating an ideal patient pathway for individuals living with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) and Long COVID (LC)
Key topics explored during the session included barriers to accessing aids and adaptations for ME/CFS/LC and the potential establishment of a specialised hub to provide targeted support and resources. The working group engaged in constructive conversations on how the healthcare system can better serve patients through regular reviews in accordance with the latest NICE guidance and improved access to general health services for severe patients, including dental and optical examinations.
The next working group meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, 26th March, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The upcoming session will continue the conversation on developing an ideal patient pathway and will focus on how to create specialised NHS services that provide coordinated care for ME/CFS and LC.
Patients and carers with lived experience of ME/CFS/LC in the BOB ICB area are encouraged to participate in future meetings. Individuals can register to join by completing the working group survey, which helps ensure that diverse perspectives are included in shaping these critical services.
