The Future of ME Medical

The Health and Social Care (HASC) Team is pleased to announce our ongoing contributions to ME Medical, a publication aimed at informing healthcare professionals of the latest developments on Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS) and Long Covid (LC). Our vision is to provide valuable resources to improve patient care and ensure they stay up to date with the latest research and clinical guidance.

Spring 2025 Edition

The Spring 2025 edition of ME Medical has been sent to 1,565 healthcare professionals and GP surgeries across the UK. We hope to continue expanding our outreach and providing timely and relevant information to healthcare professionals.

Summer 2025 Edition

In our Summer 2025 edition, we will be focusing on key issues that are crucial to improving the diagnosis and treatment of ME/CFS and LC, featuring articles on:

  • SNOMED CT Coding for ME/CFS and LC: We are raising awareness of inconsistent SNOMED CT coding practices, which can lead to misclassification or underreporting of ME/CFS and LC. This directly impacts the subsequent care patients receive, and we are working to promote accurate coding.
  • BMI as an Exclusion Criterion for NHS ME/CFS Services: The HASC team has received multiple reports highlighting the problematic practice of using a high Body Mass Index (BMI) as an exclusion criterion for accessing NHS ME/CFS services. This is contrary to the ME/CFS NICE guidelines on hospital referral procedures, and we are working to advocate for fairer, evidence-based access to services.
