The not-for-profit social enterprise GiveaCar has selected The ME Association to be one of their featured charities in February and March. To help things along, we’d welcome your stories about your most memorable old banger for publication in a series of advertorials.
Remember the famous scene in the 1970s sit com ‘Fawlty Towers’ where a demented Basil thrashes his car with a bunch of twigs? Well, anything like that really!
If you could let us have a few words about the incident that either drove you to distraction, or something that left you with a particularly fond memory of your motor, we’d like to see it – with a photo of the car in question, if that’s possible.
We’ll consider publishing it online and in our magazine, together with material promoting GiveaCar.
We’ve used GiveaCar as a way of boosting donations to the MEA for many years.
The firm arranges to collect your old car at no cost to yourself, and then either tows it away to a scrapyard or puts it up for auction. When the process is completed, the MEA receives a very welcome donation, usually round the £100 mark but sometimes more.
“We’ve never once received a complaint from an unsatisfied customer. Towing the car away is done quickly and efficiently by friendly members of staff and everything is open and above board”, said our fundraising and PR manager Tony Britton.
“But we’ve never fully exploited the potential of this scheme and I’d love that to change in 2021. I’ve got a feeling that, once more people know how easy it is to get shot of your old car, donations to the charity will go up by leaps and bounds.”
