Our ‘Eight for A Mate’ marathon champion Jack Hewitt can breathe a huge sigh of relief – because today he crossed the half way point of his eight-marathon series in Australia.
Jack is pictured with his finisher’s medal after taking part in the Eva Air Brisbane Marathon earlier this morning.
“I’m very glad that’s done! It was hard – harder than I was expecting,” said Jack. He is running to raise awareness of severe ME and to raise money for both the ME Association anf ME/CFS Australia.
“That felt like a big one done – because it marks both the half way point and the end of three marathons in four weeks. “
“I’m happy to have that intense period behind me. I knew it was going to be a challenge, coming back from injury six weeks before it started, but it was more difficult than I thought it would be.
“Now a lovely break of eight weeks until the next one!”
Jack, a Brit who has been living in Oz since the beginning of last year, has promised to complete his eight-marathon challenge with an event in Canberra in October.
He has taken on this year-long challenge after being utterly shocked by the condition in which he found Freddie, his best friend from university, when he returned to Britain to pay him a visit in June last year. Freddie has very severe ME and receives round-the-clock nursing at his home in Buckinghamshire.
