Jack prepares for his fourth marathon in Australia

Jack Hewitt, our Eight for A Mate! Marathon man, has arrived in Queensland, Australia, to take part in the Eva Air Brisbane Marathon on Sunday (1st June).

This will be fourth in his series of eight marathons to raise money for the ME Association and ME/CFS Australia – to draw people’s attention to very severe ME, a condition which sadly is affecting his best friend Freddie back home in England.

He is pictured after collecting his race bib from the organisers earlier today.

When he completes the event, he will have run a two-lap course which takes in both banks of the Brisbane River (see map below).

Jack, a Brit who has been living in Oz since the beginning of last year, has promised to complete his eight-marathon series with an event in Canberra in October.

He has taken on this year-long challenge after being utterly shocked by the condition in which he found Freddie, his best friend from university, when he returned to Britain to pay him a visit in June last year. Freddie has very severe ME and receives round-the-clock nursing at his home in Buckinghamshire.

You can read Jack's personal tribute to Freddie HERE.

Photos show Jack visiting the Brisbane Marathon site earlier today, the marathon route and a read-out of today’s elevations which will add elevations totalling 274metres to the effort required. General opinion in the running fraternity is that it's a ‘fairly flat' race.
