We are delighted to announce today the names and academic affiliations of the four students who have won ME Association bursaries so they can attend the scientific conference being held by the UK CFS/ME Research Collaborative in Newcastle-upon-Tyne next month.
Each of them will receive up to £350 to to help cover their costs at the top-notch conference being held at the Novotel Newcastle Airport on October 13 and 14.
They are:
ROXANNE PARSLOW, a PhD student working in adolescent and child health at the School of Social and Community Medicine, University of Bristol, under the academic supervision of Dr Ali Heawood and Dr Esther Crawley,
SANTOSH MURALI, a PhD student working on the study of the immunology of ME/CFS under Professor Stephen Todryk at the University of Northumbria in Newcastle.
ALISTAIR COWIE, a medical student at the University of Dundee.
AMIT ARUNKUMAR, a medical student from the University of California at San Francisco, who is currently on a placement with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine where he is working with the ME/CFS team led by Dr Luis Nacul – the team responsible for the UK ME/CFS Biobank.
All four students hope to write up their impressions of the Newcastle conference for the November issue of our membership magazine, ME Essential.
The MEA bursary scheme – which we hope to repeat in the future – has been set up to support one of the Research Collaborative's objectives which is to encourage new researchers to take an interest in ME/CFS. The scheme was boosted this year with a very generous donation from a supporter.
It was announced last week that two major sponsors – the Wellcome Trust and Arthritis Research UK – will both sponsor the conference to the tune of £10,000 each.
The MEA uses the hashtag #cmrc2015 when tweeting about this event.
