Although it was only a brief item, it was excellently dealt with. Perhaps it was the most ‘understanding’ and sympathatic TV coverage of the subject I have ever witnessed and I have been watching and hoping for 25 years.
Agree Keith. It was finally the type of UK coverage in which the patients had a voice, were heard and a genuine dialogue ensued, without some ‘expert’ being drafted in from somewhere to put a damp psychological squib on the proceedings.
Judging from the look on faces of members of the panel and in the studio audience, some of the dire reality that patients face every day finally came across.
I agree, this is probably the best article I have ever seen. Before the ‘phone in part, I got the feeling that at least some members of the panel were more than a little sceptical but didn’t like to say so. However that all changed and there was a true realisation of how dreadful the condition is. It was good, too, having the “quiz” re the number of sufferers in the UK, although it would have helped if they had put this into perspective, i.e. compared it with the number of breast cancer sufferers. However, I am nitpicking. The people who ‘phoned in are to be congratulated, too, for putting their case so clearly and factually without getting unduly emotional or angry etc. Well done everyone – I look forward to the next discussion which they promised.
