This is a scheme that provides a range of parking concessions for people with disabilities throughout the UK – but many local authorities exercise their own discretion about how it is implemented.
What all Blue Badge users need is a parking space as close as possible to your destination, wide enough so that you can fully open the car doors and a firm, non-oily footing so you don’t slip when making a wheelchair transfer.
At the end of August 2019, the criteria for elegibility were extended to people with ‘hidden disabilities’, including those with learning disabilities, autism and mental health conditions. This should make it easier for people with ME/CFS to complete successful applications, but we don’t yet know how this extension is working out in practice.
