The MEA Marketplace: It’s where people and crafts come together! | 05 March 2020

March 5, 2020

Tony Britton, Fundraising Manager, ME Association.

We want to revive our MEA Market Place, which highlights the work of arts and crafts people who want a higher profile for their work and more sales – while making a small donation to the ME Association after each sale.

There are lots of supremely gifted arts and crafts workers out there who like to work at their own pace and would welcome a chance to shout their wares to a wider audience.

We have 14 talented people  booked in as market traders at the moment and we want to recruit more. Visit our JustGiving page and join the MEA Market Place!

If you would like to be part of our arts and craft revival while using the marketplace that best suits you, or re-evaluate your own part in it, please get in touch. We'll work on putting life back into this project in the next few weeks.

Hatty Rickards – Tapestry Cushions

We were delighted to hear from Hatty Rickards, who sells her tapestry cushions on the MEA's charity eBay page – another useful way to sell and to fundraise.

Hatty has been a fundraiser for us for several years, and it was during a phone call with her in February that we got the idea to have another look at the Market Place.

“I've always done crafts, and, with my partner Jayne, I do one craft fair a year at Christmas time”, said Hatty from her home in Cardiff.

Picture shows Hatty (right) with her sister Janine. They both love crafting and Janine came over from her home in Germany recently to help Hatty finish off some more cushions.

“I've made these cushions for some time, too, put them on eBay to help the charity and, when I make a sale, I give 75% to the ME Association.

“I have recently completed six more that have been added to the 10 already listed on the site and I wondered if you could give them a plug sometime. Most are for sale at £25 but some are less. I can’t make them any cheaper as they cost me at least £12 each to make.

“I don’t mind contributing towards the cost as making these cushions helps me get through each day suffering from ME which I have had for 30 years. Sewing and crafting have kept me sane through the years as living in Wales we have no support at all to cope with this illness.”
