Oxfordshire group launches art competition to raise awareness of ME

March 6, 2010

Local group OMEGA (Oxfordshire ME Group for Action) today launches a competition open only to artists living or working the county which aims to raise the profile of ME/CFS.

The group wants to hear from children, young people and adults who can create original artworks on the theme of ‘What is ME?' There are two sections for young people – under 11 years, and aged 11-18.

The images can be submitted in any medium, any shape and any size – up to one metre square.

And entry into the competition will help the artists get better known locally; they will have the opportunity to take part in Oxford Artweeks (the exhibition extravaganza which visits up to  400 venues round the county in May) and have their entries seen on the OMEGA website,  in their newsletter and in ME Essential, the quarterly magazine of the ME Association.

There are four prizes with a total value of £120 but the cash prize will be available only to entrants who are also members of OMEGA. There will be a £50 voucher from Spirit of Nature, a £30 voucher from Riverside Organics, a £20 voucher for art materials and £20 in cash.

Digital images must reach the competition organiser by Wednesday, March 31. The deadline for the receipt of the actual artwork is 17 April (to give people trime to frame or board it before hanging). The artworks should be sent to: Omega art competition, 19 Maidcroft Road, Cowley, Oxford OX4 3EN, with full contact details for the artist so they can be returned later.

More details about the competition can be found at the OMEGA website, or by using this email.

  • OMEGA membership costs £10 a year (or £5 if you're unwaged). To enquire about membership, please email or write to: OMEGA, 4 Bursill Close, Headington, Oxford OX3 8EW.
