ME Association fundraiser Eric Smart reached Adelaide in south Australia yesterday (Saturday 10 September 2009) – at the end of a 14,386-mile cycle ride from his home town in Aberdeen.
He rode into Adelaide at 11.30am and immediately flagged up the news to his mum and dad back home. "He’s quietly pleased with his achievement", mum Audrey said in a text received by us this morning.
The 44-year-old former Aberdeen postal worker, who reccovered from ME some years ago, has raised well over £8,300 towards the ME Association and intends to keep his online fundraising page open while he cycles on through New Zealand, the USA and Ireland – until he completes his cycling circumnavigation of the world. His target is to raise £12,000 for the MEA.
