Eric Smart, our Aberdeen-Australia cyclist, posted a new blog overnight – but still leaves a bit of a mystery about exactly where he is.
His route indicator, supplied by Google Maps, places him in Istanbul. But the dateline for that was November 14, almost a fortnight ago. And his latest blog recalls the unfortunate accident he had in Livorno, Italy, a few weeks ago, when he broke his collarbone and needed treatment at the local hospital. He has also supplied a rather gruesome picture of his damaged left shoulder.
So where is he now and why did he fail to complete his blog? Knowing Eric a little, we guess he is now pedalling through Turkey on the Asian side of the Bosphorus and that he ran out of time (or went beyond budget) in an internet café while updating his travel information. We’ll try to speak to his mother Audrey in Aberdeen later on today to see if she or the family have any later news.
Eric has been on the road, with the exception of a few weeks convalescence in Italy, since leaving Aberdeen on May 4. He hopes to reach in destination in Adelaide, south Australia, sometime late next year.
Eric has set a target to raise £12,000 through sponsorship for the MEA Association for his epic cycle ride, and so far has raised well over £7,000 of that. We know that he looks at his online sponsor page from time to time. So, if you would like to give him a little bit of cheer, please visit his fundraising page and tip in a few pounds.
