New parents group in Berkshire

September 5, 2008

A new support group for parents caring for children with ME has been formed in Berkshire.

Based in Wokingham, east of Reading, the group formed in June when six parents came together to swap stories about their experiences and said they felt they formed a much closer bond than they could with any professionals. They decided to form a new network which they hope will be valued by both parents and their children.

Group founder Brenda Dean told the Wokingham Times last week: "It is great that parents of children with ME met for support and to discuss ways of helping children badly let down by the lack of specialist health resources in this area".

Eileen Shoosmith, of Reading Area ME Support Group, added: "I have had a number of enquiries from parents of children, and managed to connect rthem by email.

"I am glad Brenda has taken the next step of forming a support group with them, so they can share their own personal experiences as parents and carers of their children, which is a very different need to the person with the illness."
