The Charity Commission says trustees will find it quicker and easier to update their charity’s information, send accounts and file annual returns by using its revamped website, launched today.
Charities can now sign up to a service that will allow them to update their details and see the changes online within 24 hours. The site’s structure has also been simplified, making the commission’s advice and guidance more accessible, particularly in relation to the Charities Act 2006.
There is also a new Google-based search tool, a facility for trustees to report serious incidents and a ‘browsealoud’ feature that reads web pages for people who find it difficult to read online.
Commission chief executive Andrew Hind said the website redesign was part of continuing efforts to free charities from unnecessary bureaucracy. “Our new website makes the most of the benefits of interactive technology, improving the quality of the information charities give us, strengthening the relevance of advice we give them, and providing the general public with a valuable window on the work of the charitable sector," he said.
The commission’s website had over 39 million hits last year.
