To mark ME Awareness Day on Saturday 12th May 2007 Shropshire and Wrekin ME Support will launch their Development Plan on the original iron bridge in Ironbridge, Shropshire. Liz Lynne MEP, one of the group's patrons, will attend.
The group has now produced a blueprint for future development and improvement of Shropshire & Wrekin ME Support, which has grown organically from its inception in 1987, with a handful of members, to a strong and active support group comprising over 150 members.
All this has been achieved without a formal plan, with ad hoc additions to the service as they developed. The groups says that, by implementing a planned future development, it can go from strength to strength in supporting members and the local ME community.
The development plan sets some key targets and in particular seeks to communicate the importance of self help to the members and share the work load between many.
It is planned to establish a Buddy Scheme and continue with an Art Therapy Project. The Group works very closely with the Health Service in Shropshire and will further develop the statistics it provides for health professionals. It will seek especially to inform GP's of the work of the group. A revamped website is also being launched at the event.
