Everyone is recommended to consider making a Will so their wishes will be carried out after they die. Many people like to leave something to charity and legacies can be of particular value to The ME Association.
While it is possible to prepare a Will yourself, it is generally advisable to seek legal advice and to ask a Solicitor to draw it up for you.
If you have already made a Will then you can add to it by way of a Codicil. A link to download a specimen form of Codicil has been provided below for your convenience, although it is recommended that you should consider taking legal advice before completing and signing it. Please note that the form of Codicil is for use only if you reside in England or Wales, as Scottish Law differs.
Some people make provisions for donation to charity, leaving a particular sum or percentage of the overall sum; some people make provision for their family, friends etc. and then leave some or all of the residue to charity.
It may be helpful to specify how you wish any money you may choose to leave to The ME Association is to be spent, for example:
“I give …(amount or proportion)… to The ME Association (Registered Charity No. 801279), 7 Apollo Office Court, Radclive Road, Gawcott, Bucks MK18 4DF for its general charitable purposes. I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or duly authorised officer, shall be a valid and appropriate form of discharge.”
This would leave the allocation of the bequest in the hands of The ME Association so it could be spent on what was considered appropriate at the time. For example, to fund support and information services such as ME Connect, to support representation of the ME/CFS cause to Government departments, to fund medical conferences, to support research, etc.
Alternatively you could say exactly where you wish the money to be spent: to support our services; to go to The ME Association’s research fund; or any other aspect you consider to be of particular importance.
The ME Association’s charity details are:
Full charity name: The Myalgic Encephalopathy Association
Registered Charity No. 801279
Registered Office: 7 Apollo Office Court, Radclive Road, Gawcott, Buks MK18 4DF
If you do decide to include a gift to The ME Association in your Will, please let us know – we’d like to thank you now for your generosity on behalf of all people with ME/CFS.
